Why we are particular
A passport photo is the simplest portrait to take, and one of the hardest to get right. Consulates and passport agencies reject photos over very small details, and a rejected photo delays your whole application.
A note before your photo
To make sure your photo is accepted the first time, we may ask you to take off earrings or glasses, move your hair away from your face, or adjust your collar. We know it can feel strict. Thank you for understanding. It is how we keep our promise that your photo will not be rejected.

Passport and visa photos for every country
Since 1986 ThisPix has photographed to the required size and regulations of countries around the world, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, the Schengen countries, the Netherlands, Germany, Japan, China, India, Brazil and Jamaica.

Requirements change. We check the current rules for your document when you come in.
We also take photos for green cards, citizenship applications, the DV Lottery, international driving permits, and government and license IDs.
Recommended by consulates
- Canada. ThisPix is recommended by the Canadian consulate for passport, citizenship and visa photos, and we have received a letter of appreciation from the consulate. Canadian passport applications are handled by mail, so the photo has to be right the first time.
- The Netherlands. ThisPix is the only studio in the NYC area recommended by the Netherlands consulate, and we were trained by the consulate on its photo regulations.
- United Kingdom. UK passport and visa photos share the 35 x 45 mm size with EU photos, but the image size and background differ. We know those details and are located near the UK consulate.
- Jamaica. We are two blocks from the Jamaican consulate and have been taking its passport photos for more than 20 years.

Where can I get a passport photo in NYC?
At ThisPix, 805 3rd Ave, 2nd Floor, New York, NY 10022, at the corner of East 50th Street and 3rd Avenue in Midtown Manhattan.
Do I need an appointment?
No. Walk-ins are always welcome Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM. We do recommend booking ahead: with an appointment we are ready for you when you arrive. Call 212-753-4671 to book.
How long does a passport photo take?
About 3 minutes. Your photos are printed and ready in a couple of minutes after you approve them.
What are your hours?
Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM. We are closed on Saturday and Sunday, except for weddings and events booked in advance.
Can I get a digital passport photo?
Yes. We email the digital file of your approved photo to you. A digital file on its own is $19.99, and adding one to your 2 printed photos is $10 more, $29.99 in total.
Why did you ask me to remove my earrings or glasses?
Because consulates and passport agencies can reject a photo for jewelry, glare, shadows or hair covering the face. We would rather be strict for one minute in the studio than have your application delayed.
How much does a passport photo cost?
$19.99 for one set of 2 printed photos, or $19.99 for a digital file only. Prints and the digital file together are $29.99.
Will my photo be accepted?
We comply with each country's required size, regulation and quality in full, and with our experience we guarantee no rejection. Shadows by the neck and ears and glare on eyeglasses are common reasons photos are rejected, which is why we use professional studio lighting for every photo. If your photo is ever rejected, bring us the rejection notice and we will retake it free of charge.
Can you smile in a passport photo?
For a US passport you need a neutral expression or a natural smile, with both eyes open. Many other countries require a neutral expression with the mouth closed. Tell us which document the photo is for and we will guide you.
What should I wear for a passport photo?
Wear the kind of clothing you normally wear. For a US passport, uniforms and camouflage are not allowed, glasses must be removed, and hats or head coverings are only permitted for religious or medical reasons. A darker top shows up well against a white background.
Do you take visa, green card and DV Lottery photos?
Yes. We take photos for US visas, Schengen visas and visas for other countries, as well as green card, citizenship and DV Lottery photos. Digital files for online applications are available for $19.99 and are sent by email.
Do you take baby passport photos?
Yes. We photograph babies and children for passports.

How to book

- Weddings, fashion and commercial shoots. Inquire first. We confirm your date and send a quote, then you reserve with a deposit.
- Albums. Order online, and we contact you to collect your photos.
Deposits
$300
Weddings and fashion and commercial shoots are reserved with a $300 deposit, which is applied to your total. The deposit is fully refundable within 7 days of payment and non-refundable after that.

Passport photo guarantee
If your passport or visa photo is rejected, bring us the rejection notice and we will retake your photo free of charge.
Albums
Albums are made to order. Once we have received your photos and started your design, an album cannot be cancelled or refunded.
